Lars Ulrich has stated that the Arctic Monkeys are a “heavy metal band disguised as an indie band” in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone

Metallica’s drummer said that the Sheffield band’s hidden heavier side makes them the perfect openers for Metallica’s very first Orion festival: “For me, having the Arctic Monkeys on there is big. I think they’re a heavy metal band disguised as an indie band…If you listen to a song like ‘Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But…’ there’s almost a Rush element in there.”

Arctic Monkeys will play alongside Metallica in New Jersey on June 23-24. The Gaslight Anthem and Best Coast will also play that weekend.

According to NME, AM won’t play any European summer festivals this year. They will play two weekends worth of Coachella in CA in April, but that’s about it.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1, frontman Alex Turner responded to a question about whether we’re doing any festival shows this summer aside from Coachella by saying: “We’re not doing any, I don’t think”.

The band also confirmed that they will release a new single in coming weeks, but denied that they’ll be putting out a new EP.

Turner said: “I don’t think it’ll quite be an EP. We’re about to go and tour with The Black Keys and we’re going to put out a new tune before we go and do that.”

the frontman told NME:

“We’re in a good place,  just coming to the end of this American tour, but it’s been really good. America has really started to like us. We’ve started getting a really good response.”

and Matt Helders commented about his brief stint at acting:
“It’s a strange thing to do isn’t it? Was I ever worried that people might not get the joke? I wasn’t really that bothered. As long as people see that we don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

The band will join The Black Keys on their 2012 stadium tour! A friend of mine managed to snag four presale tickets (while I was out of luck…and we attempted to buy them at the same time), so I’ll be at their Chicago show! I’m so stoked!
